KES Chorus

Kanoheda Sweet Kreations

4th & 5th Grade Students: Teacher recommendation is required. 

Mission/Purpose: Baking and cooking with students educate and empowers students to make nourishing food choices through hands-on learning. Baking and cooking are life skills and support math, science, language, social emotional development, physical development (fine motor skills) and cognitive development. It also enhances collaborative learning and team building. 

Admin Sponsor: Ms. Butler

Faculty Advisors: JoAnne Williams

Description of planned activities: Safety of baking ; Teaching how to bake a variety of baked goods. (cakes, cookies, cupcakes, as well as learning how to decorate and bake the goods).

Meeting date and times: Every Thursday from 3:30pm- 5:30pm starting on September 12th and ending on  April 24th with a showcase presentation.

KES Jump Rope Team

3rd- 5th Grade Students

Mission/ Purpose:  The purpose of the team is to provide an opportunity that encourages self-confidence, mental and physical wellness, teamwork, and leadership throught the sport of jump rope. Due to the nature of the activity and space, students must be invited to join. Students are selected based upone their ability to jump rope and work with others.  

Faculty Advisor: Ms. Sullivan

Admin Sponsor: Mrs. Long

Description of Planned Activities: Local school performances (TBD), High School and College half-time demonstrations during basketball half-time demonstrations during basketball halftime. (TBD)

Meeting date and times: Students will meet for practice on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at 7:00 AM

Kanoheda Konversations

4th and 5th Grade Students

Mission/ Purpose:  The Podcasting Club at Kanoheda empowers students to creatively express themselves through multimedia platforms. Our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where young voice are heard, ideas are shared, and skills in communication, technology, and collaboration are developed. We aim to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love for storytelling, enabling to explore their passions and connect with their community.

Description of Planned Activities: 

 

1. Introduction to Podcasting

• Overview of podcasting and its components.

• Listening to popular kid-friendly podcasts for inspiration.

2. Script Writing

   • Brainstorming session for podcast topics.

   • Writing scripts for different segments (e.g., interviews, stories, news).

   • Practicing reading scripts aloud for clarity and expression.

3. Mock Podcasts

   • Recording practice sessions with simple audio equipment.

   • Role-playing different podcast roles (host, guest, interviewer).

   • Reviewing and providing feedback on recordings.

4. Videography

   • Introduction to basic videography techniques.

   • Recording video segments to complement audio podcasts.

   • Editing video clips using kid-friendly software.

5. Interview Skills

   • Learning how to conduct interviews.

   • Preparing questions and practicing with peers.

   • Recording mock interviews and reviewing them.

6. Sound Editing

   • Basic sound editing techniques using simple software.

   • Adding sound effects and music to enhance podcasts.

   • Practicing editing recorded segments.

7. Publishing and Sharing

   • Understanding the steps to publish a podcast.

   • Creating cover art and descriptions for episodes.

   • Sharing podcasts with the school community.

8. Reflection and Feedback

   • Reflecting on the podcasting process and what was learned.

   • Gathering feedback from club members to improve future sessions.

Meeting date and times: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 3:30 -4:30 pm. September - February

Prancing Patriots Dance Team

3rd- 5th Grade Students

Mission/ Purpose:  The dance team program's purpose is to support Kanoheda Elementary School and all of its community events.

Description of Planned Activities: PBIS Pep Rally, Black History Month, Christmas Showcase, Family Fun Night, Hispanic Heritage Month, Relay for Life, Literacy Night, Math Night, Talent Show, International Night

Robotics

4th and 5th Grade Students

Mission/ Purpose:  The mission of FIRST is to provide life-changing robotics programs that give young people the skills, confidence, and resilience to build a better world.

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Hernandez

Description of Planned Activities: introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands- on learning. Participants gain real-world problem solving experience through a guided, global robotics program, helping today's students and teachers build a better future together.
